It will not burn, rot, generate mildew. It resists most acids. It has low coefficient of thermal expansion and is suitable for temperatures up to 500°C
  • DESCRIPTION The Thermolastic Exhaust Insulation System was primarily designed for the purpose of maintaining gas temperatures in wide bore diesel exhausts fitted with a durable outer layer that is resistant to oil, water, UV and is easy to install. Thermolastic tape wrap insulation also lends itself to many other thermal application as the product combines an efficient high temperature insulation media with a durable outer layer that is resistant to oil, water, UV and is easy to install. CONSTRUCTION The system comprises two main components: an insulating layer of E- Glass tape and an outer protective tape layer. The inner layer consists of high temperature insulating E-Glass material bonded to a reflective film in a usable format that allows the tape to stretch thereby accommodating bends and avoiding slippage when wrapped. The protective outer layer is a grey, self bonding, high temperature resistant elastomer that provides extra protection to the reflective material and provides excellent resistance to UV and oxidation. The tape bonds readily to itself to provide a water and oil resistant coating while remaining durable enough to withstand the rigorous conditions found under-body on commercial vehicles. The tape is also fire retardant to UL 94 VO. The protective layer consists of an extruded self amalgamating silicone elastomer in roll form with a film interleave. It has a maximum continuous working temperature of 200°C with a spike temperature of 250°C. APPLICATION The Thermolastic wrap is applied in layers according to the temperatures involved normally 3 layers. For higher temperatures it is recommended that at least one plain insulation layer (knitted E- Glass without reflective film) is applied against the hot face with the reflective layers applied later.
